Garden Journal - July

A lot is going on in the garden this month. I've been picking green beans for a few weeks now and the okra has started to come on in the past week. I fried some up a few days ago and it was so delicious!

We dug our potatoes and onions a little over a week ago and we got a pretty good harvest.

We planted pumpkins and cucumber where the onions and potatoes were.

Here's one of our baby watermelons. It's about the size of my fist and growing super fast! This is our first time growing any kind of melon and it's been so fun watching it change every day.

Here are some of our pimento peppers.
We're just waiting on them to turn red! :)

We actually picked our first tomatoes today and had BLTs for dinner. I think we got a little over excited though and should have let them ripen a little longer. Here are some of our Romas:

The next time I update we should be rolling in the produce!
Have a great day!

  2. Wow, Missy your garden looks awesome!!! I am so impressed with your potato and onion harvest. I'm wondering how to keep your potatoes good for a long time? We planted some this year and hope to get a decent harvest. I wish we would have planted watermelon this year- looks so good and I buy one almost every week!

    1. Thanks Megan! I think to get the potatoes to keep your supposed to leave them in the ground for a few days after the plant dies back. Then, layer them in single layers between newspaper in a cool dry place for two weeks. Not sure how well this will work, but we are giving it a try. Also we are letting our onions completely dry out on the porch before we store them.
