There is a moment in my past that haunts me.
I was working in a jewelry store in a college town and a girl about my age came in and I prejudged her as stuck up. She proceeded to check out with her jewelry and out of the blue she said,
"Have you ever been pregnant?"
with a desperate look on her face.
"Have you ever been pregnant?"
with a desperate look on her face.
I'd love to tell you that I reached out to her.
That we became friends and she came to know Christ, but…
That we became friends and she came to know Christ, but…
I froze. I just said, "No" and she took her change and walked away.
As soon as she left I was so incredibly mad at myself.
Why didn't I say more?? Obviously she was desperate or she wouldn't have asked a complete stranger that question. I don't know what became of her, but I know God could have used me in that situation.
What if I had said more?
I've been thinking a lot lately about how there are so many lonely and hurting people in this world. People that so desperately need a friend. People that need love. People that need Christ.
What if we as Christians were intentional about actually seeing those around us? What if we asked God to see people the way He sees them? What if we reached out more? What if we took the time to show them that God cares?
The truth is everyone needs a friend.
Everyone is hurting in one way or another and needs love.
If you are a stay at home mom and think you can't reach people, what about the next time your at the grocery store? The gas station? The park? God could place someone in your path that needs Him and what if you answered the call?
A great reminder for us all! I admit... I've dropped the ball before and I hate it when I do. I'm trying to remember to pay attention and "be prepared"!
ReplyDeleteGod can use us right where we are. Not everyone can go to the far ends of the earth, but like you say, we can go next door and to the park ; )
ReplyDeleteThis is such a simple powerful post. We have all done the same at some point. I totally agree that we all need to keep our eyes open for opportunities to help those around us.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for writing this as it is an excellent reminder. I too have been so mad at myself for not saying more when it could have been an awesome opportunity to reach out.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what we have been talking about in Sunday school! It has been hitting me like a wrecking ball lately...I am too judgemental before I even know.....And even if I did know what difference would it make? Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteI hate the "What if" thoughts that haunt me when I miss an opportunity. Thank you for taking time to remind me to seize the next one! Following on Twitter and Pinterest now:)
