Building a Classic (Thrifted) Wardrobe

Since getting rid of a lot of my clothes, I've realized that I have some major gaps in my wardrobe. I'm focusing on filling those gaps with some classic and quality pieces.

But, we're trying to save some extra money this month and actually stay on budget so I have to limit my spending and try and find some nice pieces from the thrift store. I did a Goodwill run last night and found this purse (I love jewel tones for fall) and black blazer for $4 each:
I also bought this Banana Republic pinstripe shirt for $3.50:

I'm learning to be pickier about what I buy these days. It's so easy to buy everything you like when thrifting since it's all so inexpensive, but then you end up with a houseful of stuff you "like" instead of "love."

I'm doing my best to control myself. :)

Anyway, I'm planning on going to some more thrift stores this week looking specifically for:

Knee Length Denim Skirt
Knee Length Corduroy Skirt
A-line dresses
Black Knit Wrap or Cardigan
Other Quality Fall Pieces I Can Find

I'll post some more photos if I buy anything.

Do you have any gaps in your wardrobe?
Do you like buying clothes from the thrift store?

  1. I love thrifting, and think that you new fall pieces are great! :) I recently sorted my wardrobe by colour and I have found that it is really easy to see where you have gaps---(and in my case where you have TOO much!)

  2. I lost 30 lbs and nothing fit any more. You can only do so much with belts and jacket clips. Anyway I went to Goodwill and found two great pairs of pants that I am still wearing two years later. I also picked up two blazers, one that still had tags on it for $5 each. Can't beat that and if I decide in the future I don't love them, it does feel not so hard to part with them.

  3. Hubby and I do most of our clothes shopping at the thrift store. There is one we love an hour away that is a huge warehouse. For us, we go in the spring and in the fall to get our wardrobe for the season. We can walk out with 8-10 new shirts each for less than $25. And one good thing is that when I get stains on my shirts (which I always do because I have a natural "food stopage" area below my neck), I dont feel nearly as guilty for having to get rid of it, because many times, I paid less than $3 for it! We are not able to try on our clothes at the thrift store we frequent, so I dont buy my pants there (hubby does all the time with no problems). We are going to have to make a trip for this season soon because like Vikki, I've lost 32 lbs and I am swimming in some of my clothes.

  4. This is giving me the fever to purge my closets and clean up those small pieces of odds and ends that get thrown wherever. Love your new items.
