Spending Time Wisely - Ephesians 5:15

"Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is."
-Ephesians 5:15-17

These verses seem to be in the back of my mind a lot. Maybe it's because I feel guilty for spending just a little too much time on the Internet. Obviously, these words apply to everyone. We are all going to be held accountable for the way we spend the precious time God has given us, but I feel like these words have special meaning for me as a stay at home mom

As a stay at home mom, I don't have anyone planning my days or telling me how to spend my time. It's up to me to get done what needs to be done. It really takes some self discipline to do what I'm suppose to when no one is watching.

But wait, isn't God watching!?

Yes, of course He is! I need to remember this as I'm on Pinterest for just a little too long. God has called us all to be wise in how we spend our days, therefore we need to be asking ourselves: Does what I'm doing have an eternal impact? Could I be doing something else with my time that would Glorify God more?

I believe every generation has it's own set of temptations and these verses have always been relevant, but it seems so easy to waste time with the Internet at our fingertips ALL. DAY. LONG. I don't know about you, but I get to the point where I don't even want to look at a screen any more.

I'm not saying the Internet (or whatever your time waster is) is bad, but we should be setting boundaries and planning our days in a way that Glorifies God. I'm really writing this for myself as a reminder to step back and try to stay balanced. It is my prayer that I would examine my time and make sure that I'm spending it wisely and understanding what the will of the Lord is for me.

Do you struggle in this area?
I'd love to know I'm not the only one!

  1. This is so true. I almost hate the time I spend on the Internet because before I know it I have been on for two hours. Thanks for the inspiration.

    1. Me too. It's way too easy to get sucked in surfing the Internet!

  2. You are absolutely not the only one!! The internet is such a time waster! For months now I've only been getting online when the children are asleep (and my chores are done) and when I'm feeding Asher. I have a laptop, so I completely put it out of sight so there isn't the temptation. Doing that has really helped me a lot to be "all there" with my kids.

    1. That's a great idea to put the computer out of sight! I'm praying and working on where my boundaries are right now with this. Thanks for commenting! :)

  3. You're not alone, Missy! :) I continue to ask the Lord to order my steps throughout the day and for His help in setting and maintaining my priorities according to His will.

    Excellent post ~ thank you!

  4. You definitely are not alone!! Especially as a tired momma (I'm currently working fulltime with an almost 4 month old at home.) it's hard not to just sit on the couch and read facebook or pinterest (or just to watch tv)once baby goes to sleep at night. It's okay for me to sometimes just sit on the couch but if it's a nightly occurence then that's when I realize I am being super wasteful of the precious time God has given me. Not everyone is given a next breathe or next heartbeat, I try to remember that and use each breathe and each heartbeat in a way that will be pleasing to Him.

  5. Yes, this is something I always have to be mindful of. Somehow the internet just seems to suck me in some days.

  6. Amen! God has just placed on my heart to fix my priorities! I've started a 40 Fast (Absence) from Facebook. It was my biggest time waster, followed closely by Pinterest. I pray during this time that God will direct me to how He would like to use Facebook, Pinterest and blogging in my future. Kinda scary...but I am called to be obedient!

Can't wait to read more of your posts!
