I started my tomato and pepper plants yesterday. I started them a little bit earlier this year since I'm due right around the time I started them last year.
My husband wants to build me a better set up, but for now I'm using baking sheets, egg cartons, and grow lights. :) It works pretty well. Here are the onions I started a month ago:
I decided to use biodegradable pots this year so I wouldn't have to worry about transplanting them once they sprout. I don't have a heat mat so I'm hoping they germinate without it since it's a little bit chilly in our house. I put a layer of plastic wrap across the tomatoes so maybe that will help. I can't believe I'll be planting my cool weather veggies outdoors in a few weeks!!
Have you started any seeds yet?
Yikes! Is it time to start planting the cold-weather plants already?!?! In March? We are trying straw bale gardening this year. We have 20 bales in our garage waiting to be taken outside to get ready. :-)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great!
I'm gonna plant carrots, onions, and potatoes sometime in the next month. Hopefully it won't be too early… :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... I just took a look. We are 6a. I thought we were zone 5. I guess I better get moving! We should probably start planting our onions and spinach within the next month as well. You are going to be one busy mama! :-) Looking forward to "meeting" the lil' guy soon.
ReplyDeleteI started some of my seeds indoors about two weeks ago. This year I'm using a regular fluorescent light instead of trying to find a good sunny window. I have been completely shocked at how well my seeds have done! Like you I was kind of worried that maybe it was too cold for them as our house is also pretty cold, but they've done amazing. Next up are the same as you, carrots, onions, potatoes, peas, and spinach outdoors!
ReplyDeleteI want to try growing tomatoes, so I can make my own tomato ketchup :) :) I'll probably start the end of March, because I'll have enough funds to buy everything I need to grow tomatoes ;) Have a great weekend. Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)
ReplyDeleteLooking good, Missy! We started tomato and pepper seeds indoors a few weeks ago. Planted spinach, onions, peas and lettuce into the ground already! I'm hoping to get a few more things started and put out into the cold frame. I like the idea of biodegradable pots!
ReplyDeleteThings are coming along great. I started mine, it started snowing, go figure!
ReplyDeleteI started my last week but alittle worried they look leggie, not sure why. I also wanted to say that I enjoyed looking through your blog while I was here, Hope you have a wonderful night.
