What I (MADE and) Wore Wednesday

I'm pretty proud of this shrug because it's the first garment that I've ever crocheted. It was pretty simple to make. If you know how to single crochet you can make this! It's a little time consuming, but worth it. I started it last winter, but didn't feel like working on it much when I had Walker.

It's a free pattern from Lion Brand called the Sequoia Shrug. You can view the pattern here. Basically all you do is single crochet in the back loops a big rectangle and sew up the sides leaving arm holes. Here is my piece before I folded it:

And here it is finished! (Sorry this picture is dark.)

I ended up making mine a few inches shorter than the pattern because I didn't want to start another ball of yarn and I think it looks fine.

This pattern has mixed reviews. Some people said it wasn't flattering because of the lump in the back, but I think it's cute! :) A lot of people gave it positive reviews though. I love it and it's a good project for a beginner like me.

I haven't participated in What I Wore Wednesday in awhile because I haven't been wearing anything too exciting, but I managed to snap a picture of what I wore to church on Sunday.

Anyway, I'm excited to be finished with my shrug! I'm really gonna try to do several knit and crochet projects this fall and winter. I want to be more competent in both.

What do you think?
Any fellow knitters/crocheters out there?

  1. That is a really nice shrug - I love the colouring in the wool you used too. I might just have to bookmark the pattern for myself. I'm a crocheter too but I haven't really branched into trying to make myself clothes - something I certainly need to do some more of!

    1. You should try it! It's so easy, but it is a little time consuming since it's all done in single crochet.

  3. Hi there Missy! I do not know how to crochet or knit! :S My husband got me a book set a couple years ago, and I tried a little, but gave up quickly! Maybe now that I am at home, I can try to tackle it again! It sounds like a great cool weather project to work on next to the fire! :) Any tips for a novice?
    Have a blessed day!

    1. I personally think crocheting is easier to learn. The best way to get started in my opinion is to look on youtube. Or I have some beginner videos posted in my old crochet posts. You should try it out! It's very relaxing. :)

    1. That's awesome, but I'd have to charge like $200 for it since it took so long lol

  9. I like the cardigans that don't really button. I have one that is of similar style but the length ends just blow my breasts on the sides. I think the sleeves are supposed to be 3/4 long, but I have long arms (I'm 5'11"), so I'm used to short sleeves. I also have one that is long sleeved and with a hook-and-eye closure. I actually found it at the girl's store Justice and it's a girl's 18. (I got it for $2.50. I weigh about 137. I have several shirts that are boy's and girl's large.) I also have a blazer shrug that I got off the girl's clearance rack at Kohl's. It's a little tight, but I like it, it was only $3 and my MIL bought it for me. :-D

The great thing about these styles is that they are pregnancy friendly. (I'm all about cheap, versatile, mix-and-match and long lasting for my clothes.) My MIL knits and I think she crochets. I'll ask her andshow her the pattern. (My husband lived at home working, for a year after college. Because, as his church youth group leader, I spent most weekends at their house, I could have taken the opportunity to learn to knit. For six [VERY LONG] months after seminary, we lived there. I was in too much of a funk to think about it.)
