I really enjoy comparing monthly garden photos because things change so quickly! Last month around this time the plants were barely 6" tall and now look at them!
I've seen tons of tomato blooms, but I haven't found any little tomatoes yet. I'm sure we have some I just haven't had the time too look. The only thing I've harvested from the garden so far is basil and a few strawberries.
Our beans and cucumbers are blooming so it won't be long until we have fresh produce coming in everyday. Our peas aren't doing too well. I think we may have planted them a little too late and they just aren't liking the hot weather. I may pull them up and plant more cucumbers. Also our sunflowers have buds on them and I am so excited to see them bloom! Normally I have a black thumb when it comes to growing flowers, but so far they all look healthy. :)
Our potatoes and onions are also doing well. Does anyone else dig out around your onion bulbs to get bigger onions? We were told to do so last year, but I can't find any other information on the subject.
The nursery at one of the local farm supply stores was 50% off so we picked up two blueberry bushes for $6 each. Now we have 4 blueberry plants and I can't wait to see how they produce. We planted two of them in our landscaping because the foliage turns a pretty red color in the fall.
Also, our raspberries are blooming. Yay! I think the plants we have produce two crops per year. One in the spring and one in the fall. I guess I'll just have too wait and see because I don't remember.
We have tons of apples on our apple tree and I can't wait until we can harvest them!
Also, I've been noticing lots of aphids and potato beetles so I ordered 1500 hundred lady bugs to release. (They eat pests.) They arrived live through the mail. Crazy!
Not sure if this link will work, but I just read the article this morning about various things to companion plant to address pest issues. It's from This Old House. Thought you might enjoy it. http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/photos/0,,20391821,00.html?xid=grnewsletter-140604-organic-plants
