Third Trimester Challenges

I'm 29 weeks and officially in my third trimester! (This picture was taken on Christmas at 27 weeks.) I'm so excited for this milestone, but I've also been hit hard with some challenging new symptoms. I've been doing really well with exercising daily and trying to keep my nutrition in check, however as soon as I hit the last trimester I've slowed down considerably due to back and lower abdomen pain. It's been so bad some days that I can hardly walk let alone try to exercise.

This has been pretty hard on me as I've had great plans to stay active and strong right up until delivery, but I've had to scale back considerably lately. I'm trying to keep my spirits up and do what I can when I feel up too it, but it's hard to face the reality of not being as strong as I'd like. My doctor did say that some of this pain is probably from baby being head down which is great!

With my previous pregnancy I remember hitting a wall around 32 weeks and I got pretty depressed and had a really hard time during my last few months so I'm determined to keep going and not let that happen this time around!

Anyway, now that Christmas is over I'm starting to focus on getting the nursery ready and sorting out some projects for my sweet little girl! We moved Walker into his new room a few nights ago and things have gone great. He's still in a crib so it really wasn't much of a transition, just a new room. We show him pictures of the ultrasounds and tell him,  "That's sissy!" and he pats and kisses my belly and says "Sissy!" It's so adorable!

Can't wait to post some upcoming projects that I have planned for the new baby. Only 11 weeks to go so I'd better get started! :)

  1. I know how you feel! I am usually very active and recently have been struggling with ligament and join pain in pregnancy. I have had to really slow down my exercise, and it has been very difficult. I went and got a short membership at a pool nearby, and I've found swimming to be an amazing alternative to all my other exercises. I hope you find a great alternative that works alright for you.

    1. Good to know I'm not alone. :) Swimming sounds wonderful!! Maybe I can find a pool somewhere close. I've been taking lots of baths and using my birthing ball to take the pressure off which works pretty well. Good luck!

  2. You look great! The more you can try and stay positive, the better off you will be, even when you hurt! Plus, having Walker to care for will really help keep your mind off it as much.

  3. I had a very hard time exercising with my boy pregnancies. For some reason my girl pregnancy was easier on my body. I would get horrible braxton hicks contractions when I tried to go for walks. I tried drinking more water, eating more carbs before nothing really seemed to make a difference. I just did what I could, when I could and tried not to get discouraged. It's so frustrating though. I would try to work in stretching and light hand weights when I couldn't walk.

  4. You can do it!! Stay positive- I know how hard it is. I hit that "wall" with my twin pregnancy at about 28 weeks, then from there on out it was extremely difficult physically and mentally, granted I had some complications, but just carrying the weight alone was so hard on my body. Both my babies were head down too and I had vaginal births. I remember breaking down a lot the last couple of weeks because I was so ready to be done! You look really good and you will love having a sweet little girl :)

    1. Thanks Megan! I'm sure you had your share of challenges in the third trimester carrying twins! I am doing my best to push through. I think some of the pain is subsiding a bit which is wonderful!!
