I picked two cherry tomatoes and two jalapenos! Actually, I picked a couple jalapenos yesterday and put them on my pizza, but I didn't get a picture. Anyway, I'm so excited to start getting produce from the garden. I've got so many healthy looking tomatoes that are just waiting to ripen. Hopefully by the 4th of July I'll have some ready to slice.
On another note, did you know you can regrow romaine lettuce from their stumps?
All you have to do is put them in water, see:
Amazing! You can also do this with green onions and celery (although I've never tried the celery).

Also, do you have any recipes that use jalapenos or banana peppers?
So proud of you! We are definitely NOT master gardening over here at the Powers Homestead! lol . . . we got some radishes!? (Probably the easiest vegetable to grow!). I am pretty sure our chickens dusting in the garden dirt did not help! I am thinking we need to get a fence at some point! I LOVE the lettuce idea! Thanks for sharing! ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first harvest. I'm still amazed that I can put a seed in the ground and grow something, aren't you? If your tomatoes ripen up soon enough, you could make salsa with your jalapenos. Good stuff!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this tip,I haven't tried Romaine lettuce yet. Try re-growing celery, it's the same concept and within a few days it will grow 4-5 inches! Also, I have been re-growing green onions the same way. They will nearly grow before your eyes, two inches overnight!
ReplyDeleteHow do you get the lettuces to grow that tall? We tried a few of ours, and they rotted after a week or so. Is there any trick to it? Changing the water often? Add anything to the water? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHey! I didn't do anything special. I changed the water every few days. We had another one next too it that didn't grow much at all. Then when I chopped this one up (I guess we didn't let it grow long enough??) It was super bitter and nasty. :(
