As I was reading The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding,
this quote caught my attention:
"The newborn baby has only three demands.
They are warmth in the arms of its mother,
food from her breasts, and security
in the knowledge of her presence.
Breastfeeding satisfies all three."
-Dr Grantly Dick-Read

Missy...it really is one of the greatest gifts of mothering an infant. I hope you have a wonderful experience. I surely am...the days are fast approaching when that chapter of motherhood will be over for me and I'm going to miss it so very much. There's something truly amazing about providing the sustinence and comfort your infant needs from your very own body. And the bonding it induces between you. Precious and sacred.
ReplyDeleteLove that book!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! My little one is almost 5 months old and its the best thing for them physically & emotionally. It was rough going though the first month but after that we've been doing fine. Now she's teething and thinking mom is okay for that too which has been a challenge. Hehe. Even with challenges it is soooo worth it. And it really puts you in tune with them. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that book and reference it frequently...along with kellymom.com (GREAT resource for breastfeeding). Besides birth, breastfeeding is the hardest but also most rewarding thing I've ever done!
ReplyDeleteL.O.V.E!!!!! And I'll keep this in mind every time I pick up my two month old to feed him. (((sigh))) I am so happy to be back to nursing again. It is satisfying for me as well!
ReplyDeleteit can be rough (hard, painful, frustrating, tear-jerking) for up to 3 months sometimes... but some of the best things in life reqire a "rough" period!
ReplyDeleteBreastfeeding is wonderful, I did it with our son and now our daughter. It can be tough at first, but it is worth it. Remember when things get tough, (this was hard for me to grasp with my first baby) it is ok to pump if you are hurting, and it is ok to suppliment with formula if needed. I was getting so stressed when he wasn't getting enough and I had to feed him 2 ounces of formula to top him off, but once I actually did it, all the stress was gone. And without the stress this time, I am actually not having that problem. :)
