Sorry I haven't been posting much lately.
I've been busy giving all my stuff away and it feels. so. good.
My days have looked a lot like this:
Purge.
Organize.
Donate.
Repeat.
I just can't seem to stop myself. I want my home and my heart to reflect the wise words of William Morris:
"Have nothing in your house
that you don't know to be useful,
or believe to be beautiful."
The bible says this,
"for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content."
-1 Timothy 6:7-8
I am learning to find beauty in simplicity. In decorating, in my wardrobe, in my food choices. I'm learning that the less you have the more you appreciate it. I'm really challenging myself and trying to get rid of everything that I don't love or need. I'm also learning that it will probably be a life long process.
It's crazy how much stuff accumulates in my house. (I blame my thrifting and crafting tendencies for this.) Since the beginning of the year we've had three garage sales and donated three carloads full of stuff. CrAzY!! I am finally in a place where I can breathe and be at peace in my home. Before, it was clean, but full of extra clutter and stuff that stressed me out. I felt like I was never really done cleaning because of all the extra stuff lying around.
Anyway, I'm eager to show my progress and share more about my journey with you. I'll be posting before and after photos soon!
I have been this way a long time and love it. I love clear counters and even some empty cupboards! It makes cleaning so much easier and we really don't need that much stuff.
ReplyDeleteEmpty cupboards oh my! How awesome!
DeleteI'm with ya! There truly is a beauty to simplicity in most areas of life- decor, wardrobe, food, activities etc. I have had to pull back on my tendency to do a total overhaul. My hubby isn't of this persuasion. He's working on his pack rat habits (he comes by it honest. haha). While clutter makes me stress, letting go of things makes him stressed. Little by little we're reaching that middle ground! I'll have to check out the challenge at The Nester. Sounds interesting! :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a hoarder as well so I can understand.
DeletePS I decided not to do the "31 days" series as it was stressing me out and NOT simplifying my life. :)
YYEEEEESSSS!!! I could not agree more :) William Morris was a wise man- everything must be either functional or beautiful- or better yet- both! I have been really trying this year too to purge and simplify.
ReplyDeleteYour home is a good example of beautiful simplicity! :) I love the photos on your blog!
DeleteYea! I am doing this exact same thing! . . .And that is a great quote and verse! Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Megan
I have so much stuff everywhere and really don't have the space for it! I have a craft mountain!!
ReplyDeleteI really need to declutter. I get attached to things though which makes it a little tough!
"Have nothing in your house
ReplyDeletethat you don't know to be useful,
or believe to be beautiful." ~ I LOVE this quote! :)
getting rid of the extra stuff has become a life long habit for me.
