Gardening Journal - July 17th

Someone please tell me what I'm gonna do with all these banana peppers?!? I've already pickled a few half pints and I'm not sure how they turned out. I'm kinda skeptical because I just used vinegar and water. Anyway, I have a boat load of these that I need to use up.
My beans and cucumbers are starting to come up, which is really exciting since I've never grown either before. I can't believe how fast the beans are growing! (Sorry the picture is focused wrong.)
 Here are some of the marigolds that I grew from seed this year. I'm pretty proud of them since last year they all died. I think I planted them too early though. P.S. Have you ever seen a marigold seed? They are the weirdest looking things.
 I pulled some runners off of my strawberry plants and I'm gonna replant them. I've got my hopes up for a good strawberry crop next year! Any tips?

  1. Wow, looks like you have quite a green thumb! Love the basket of veggies at the top. We do not have a garden yet since we just moved in, but, Lord willing, we have high hopes for next year. =)

  2. For banana peppers I stuff them with cheese and/or seasoned meat, dip them in egg, bread them and fry them in a little olive oil. Have you ever had a chili relleno (sp) at a Mexican restaurant? That is where I got the idea. I have also baked them instead of frying for a healthier option, but they are not as crispy that way. I have enjoyed reading your blog since I found it a few weeks ago. - Rebecca

  3. Congrats on the marigolds. The seeds are definitely odd huh? It makes you stare at the flower and wonder "just WHERE does THAT come from?" We grew a bunch of stuff from seed this year. So rewarding and definitely a learning experience. Those peppers can be stuffed with sausage and frozen. We also like to cut some up and just freeze them. We use them throughout the winter to put on sandwiches or in pasta. Enjoy!!!

  4. I loved your garden pictures. My early things (radishes, carrots, and lettuce) are almost done and the last few days I've been working on a second planting.

  5. wonderful!! Good job gardening! We've been doing the same thing this year. We planted Peas, Beans, grape tomatoes and carrots. we've harvested beans and peas already although they are still growing. But we can hardly wait to see the carrots and tomatoes!. It's so fun when you grow them from seeds eh?! :)

  6. Wow, your garden is doing amazing! Love the beautiful marigolds! I'm really hoping we have a successful garden next year. I grew up on a farm and my Granddaddy had a HUGE garden every year. I have tons of memories of working in the garden every summer.
