The Joy of Air Drying Clothes

I realize everyone may not find *joy* in air drying their clothes, but it makes me feel good that I don't *have* to use my dryer. I like the idea of being less dependent and more self sufficient, no matter how small a step it may be. As you can see my laundry room is more of a closet, so I'm having to be creative and efficient in drying a weeks worth of clothes! I only have one small load of whites left and I'll officially be dryer free for the week!!
I used my shower curtain rod to dry our long pants.
And of course I used my new drying rack that I found at the thrift store a few weeks ago! If I had just one or two more of these I could handle air drying a bunch of clothes, no problem.

Benefits of Air Drying:
*Saves $ on electricity
*Prolongs the life of your clothes AND your dryer
*Eliminates accidental shrinkage in clothes
*Adds moisture to the very dry winter air (I LOVE this benefit!)
*Satisfaction in doing something by hand

Do you air dry your clothes during the winter? If so, do you have any more benefits or tips to add?

  1. We air dry our pants, shirts, and in the summer sheets. Towels and socks are a MUST dryer dry in this house! I cannot stand the hard, crisp towels and socks! I never realized that it adds moister to the air! Thanks for the post!

  3. I am so happy to see that I am not the only one who LOVES and finds JOY in air drying! Now that it is winter and I have only one rack, all of my clothes are hanging on windows and on a canopy bed lol! But yes, I do love to air dry and just seeing the savings makes me think twice of the dryer!

  4. Love it!
I use a metal quilt rack to dry our clothes in front of the fireplace. We are redoing our laundry room - I may request a couple of rods in between cabinets like yours for the same reason! I love air drying my clothes. Hubby...not so much.
