Custom Pajama Pants

You know where I can buy pajama pants that fit me like this? Nowhere. They simply don't exist because the standard length for woman's pj pants are like Capri's on me. Anyway, I made these using this tutorial and I highly recommend it! I made some last year with the same tutorial and they turned out good, but they're better this time because I made some improvements. It's so easy because you use a pair of pants that you already have as a pattern and you cut it on the fold of the fabric so you only have 2 pieces, 3 seams, 3 hems and your done! I seriously made these from start to finish in under an hour. It may not be smart to make pajama pants in the middle of pregnancy, but I tried to make them where they would grow with me and I could still wear them afterwards. I used an elastic waistband, but maybe next time I'll do a drawstring so that they have more "growing" room.

  1. Thanks for the great link Missy. I recently tried a pair of pj pants using this same technique...but I'm doing it with a knitted fabric...tricky to work with. I had them perfect until I went to hem the waist...I had cut the waist way too high...so I tried to cut some off and I cut too much off! blah! So now they're sitting in my sewing room waiting for me to cut out a new waist to sew on. But this gives me new inspiration to finish them! Yours are lovely...really like the print and color :)

  2. p.s. You can make pants for your little one the same way. And thrifted sheets (or old ones that maybe you or family are looking to get rid of) are a great resource for making your pj pants or pants for your little one! I just bought a bundle at our local Goodwill...hoping to blog about it soon :). I have a sweet little dress for Aubrey all dreamed up.

  4. Oooh, I love this! For Christmas eve our family gets together at my moms, we're all wearing pajamas this year and I found some online that I really like. However, it would be much easier to just do this and make them myself! Thanks for sharing!
