Guess What?!?

It's a BOY!!!!

We went to the doctor on Wednesday and found out we're having a boy!! We're so thrilled!! Also we went to our first Bradley Childbirth Class yesterday and I'm so glad we signed up! I know it's going to be so helpful in preparing us for a natural birth.  If you aren't familiar with the Bradley Method it focuses on husband coached and supported labor with an emphasis on relaxation techniques to help manage pain. They also give you exercises to do that will help prepare your body for birth. If your interested in learning more you can go here

Also I have a quick question for experienced moms. I'm due in early March and confused on what kinds of clothes I should buy. March and April weather are completely unpredictable around here. It could be anywhere from 0-80 degrees. Should I just buy a combination of winter and spring clothing? Also I know there's probably no way to know, but how many newborn vs. 0-3 months outfits should I have? I was over 9lbs at birth so there's no way I could've fit into NB clothes. I'm probably going to be buying most of the clothes second hand so I won't be able to return them. Any input or advice would be helpful! Thanks!!

  1. Congratulations!
My little girl was 7 lb 11 oz. at birth and we were in newborn clothes (mostly Carter's brand) for a month! I didn't have hardly any newborn clothes because I wasn't expecting her to wear them for so long. Onesies are always good to get, and good for layering. I would probably look for some long sleeved onesies and sleepers for wearing around the house that time of year.

  2. Congratulations on having a boy! I have a 3 month old son and they are just the greatest :) I also had a natural childbirth and it was an incredible experience...difficult, but very worth it!

As for the clothes, I would definitely look more into getting 3-6 months. My son outgrew 0-3 within a month lol, but he was also 8.2 lbs when he was born...your little guy may be smaller! I would also get a good mix of warm clothes and cooler clothes since some days may be hotter than others!

  3. First of congratulations!

Second- I was due in late March (from NE Texas so not too far from you) and I went with layers, layers, and more layers. Because-like you said- the weather is so unpredictable that time of year. I had mostly maternity jeans (gap sells them by the size you were in before you got pregnant instead of s-m-l, and they usually have GREAT sales) and then bought t-shirts and sweaters. I had a few long sleeve shirts but mostly short sleeve and if I got hold I threw a sweater on over it. It worked for me and I wasn't stuck in long sleeves if it was hot and wasn't stuck with only short sleeves either (we had an unusually long winter in 2008).

    Hope that helps!

  7. Congratulations!!

As for buying clothes and diapers, my advice is to create a baby clothing and a baby diaper envelope. Continue to put money in it. Buy a few things of each size, and when your little man comes home, you'll be able to get the rest of what you need, depending on his size.

Also, we ended up buying a pack of diapers every time we went to the grocery store while I was pregnant. It worked out well for us, despite the fact that we had to exchange a bunch of packages for different sizes.

  8. Congratulations on the little boy!! We found out this week that we're having a little boy too! So exciting!

Good for you doing the Bradley classes! I've had two natural births, and wouldn't trade them for anything. The best thing you can do is to prepare all through your pregnancy for labor and delivery. Exercise regularly, eat well, drink red raspberry tea, etc.

It's so hard to say with baby clothes! Both my babies have been a little over 6lbs at birth, and they both wore preemie clothes for several weeks before even fitting in newborn size. They were in 0-3 month size the longest.

  10. Awww... Congratulations :) WIth my kids, I got a few premie sizes (just in case... Babies #1, and #2 needed them), a few more 0-3 months, and some 3-6 months too. My recommendation for clothes is onsies. You can wear them with a jacket, pants, and socks. As the weather gets warmer you can take the jacket and/or pants off.

  12. HURRAY! I finally figured out why my comments weren't working on here!!! I've been wanting to wish you congrats for so long...very excited for you and your hubby.
If I were you, I would have a few NB outfits on hand just in case...but most 0-3 month things will work even for a newborn. Our little Aubrey was born the end of March...right in that crazy fluctuating weather stuff...just think layers and lots of baby blankets! Always start with a onesie and socks and just add whatever you need to keep baby comfy. And remember that a blanket does the trick of keeping warm just as good as clothing! Again...congrats!
