Honey Wheat Bread

Photo from Taste of Home

I got a bread machine as a wedding gift, which was one of my absolute favorite gifts!! (Besides my Paula Deen Cookware). Anyways, I have only used boxed bread mixes which are super simple and delicious, but I wanted to try my own recipe and see if I could pull it off. I know that bread is pretty finicky to make and I was skeptical, but it turned out really good! I used this recipe from Taste of Home.

Honey Whole Wheat Bread

  • 1 cup water (70° to 80°)
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast (2-1/4 teaspoons)
In bread machine pan, place all ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer. Select basic bread setting. Choose crust color and loaf size if available. Bake according to bread machine directions (check dough after 5 minutes of mixing; add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or flour if needed). Yield: 1 loaf (1-1/2 pounds, 16 slices).

I actually added cinnamon and raisin to this recipe, but I didn't really get the proportions right (not enough raisin). Also, when I make this again I think I will increase the honey to make it a little sweeter. If your looking for a healthy, simple bread recipe I suggest trying this one!! :)
